Stay Awake: Trusting God’s Timing in Mark 13:14–37

Mark 13.14-37

In this passage, Jesus speaks of the coming trials and the “abomination of desolation,” warning his followers to flee when they see it. He describes cosmic signs of upheaval, the gathering of the elect, and the coming of the Son of Man in glory. Jesus emphasizes that no one knows the exact time of these events—not even the Son—and urges his disciples to stay awake and vigilant, living in readiness for God’s purposes to unfold.

What is attractive about God's Dream?

The vision of the Son of Man coming with great power and glory is profoundly hopeful. It reminds us that God’s Dream is not only about enduring present struggles but about a future where God’s justice and renewal prevail. The gathering of the elect shows that no one is forgotten in God’s vision, offering assurance that each person is known, seen, and cherished.

Jesus’ call to “stay awake” is also deeply inspiring. It invites us to live attentively and purposefully, recognizing that our lives are part of a greater story. At Christmas, this call resonates as we celebrate the arrival of Christ, who enters the world to bring light, hope, and renewal.
